In general, both concentrations and pollution
loads are increasing in the Manyame River. From 2003 to 2011
there was a rapid increase in urban agriculture along the Manyame
River, which could be partly attributed to the fast track land resettlement
programme in which more land was put under cultivation
by formerly black peasant farmers. These activities were a source
of pollution from runoff containing nutrients and various noxious
substances from the use of fertilizer
