METHOD
The sibling relationships described
here were observed and documented during
10 years of service in the Women’s Clinic for
Psychosis (Seeman & Cohen, 1998). Clinical
examples illustrate themes that have been
previously highlighted in the psychological
and sociological literature on adult siblings
and the support they provide, or fail to provide,
to each other during times of illness.
Approximately 100 women each year came
for ongoing treatment at the clinic after their
initial consultation. The author followed 25
such women, once a week on average. From
