The clinical presentation of varicella in adults is frequently associated with complications, particularly
varicella pneumonia. Most cases occur in immunocompromised adults but immunocompetent can have
serious pulmonary compromise. We report the case of an immunocompetent patient admitted to the
intensive care unit with dyspnea and an exanthematous vesicular rash. We diagnosed varicella pneumonia based on the presence of a typical skin rash, pulmonary symptoms and contact with a child with
chickenpox, confirmed by positive serology of varicella zoster virus (VZV). The patient made a full recovery with mechanical ventilation and anti-viral therapy
