Page 2Biochar, a carbon-rich material produced through the pyrolysis of organic matter, such as wood, agricultural residues, or waste biomass, has been used for centuries as a soil conditioner and for carbon sequestration. Modifying biochar allows us to improve and tailor its properties to meet the specific needs of different environments or applications, such as enhancing its ability to adsorb toxins from water or improving its effectiveness in soil quality improvement.
