Another subassembly of tag components is called an inlay or insert. This is essentially
a complete tag that is usually embedded in a label. An inlay consists of
an IC, an antenna, and a continuous length of substrate to accommodate several
thousand inlays. The IC used may be part of a strap.Typically, the substrate does
not have an adhesive. The inlays are supplied on a reel of continuous web and
are used by label makers, also called converters, to embed RFID functions into
labels. The continuous form of inlays helps assemble labels on high-speed
equipment. Figure 3-3 shows a sample of inlay.
