Carbonyl protein content was measured as an indicator of oxidative
damage to proteins in mako shark tissues following the methods
of Levine et al. (1994) and Stadtman and Levine (2000), as described
in Cantú-Medellín et al. (2011), and using a Beckman Coulter DU 800
spectrophotometer. The results are expressed as μmol carbonyl protein
g−1 wet tissue.
