The pilot survey
In October 2011, members of the research group reviewed the learning from the second pilot and drew up a third set of the survey questionnaires with separate versions for children aged 8, 10 and 12 years old. These questionnaires were then used in a range of 14 countries9 for a large- scale deep pilot of the survey. Over 34,000 children participated in this wave of the survey. The data was gathered into an international database and some preliminary findings were presented for peer review at a meeting hosted by UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre in Florence in November 2012 and at the ISCI conference in Seoul in May 2013. Data from the pilot wave was used as the basis for a series of articles published in a special issue of Child Indicators Research in early 201510.
