Radiographic testing is one of the oldest methods of
nondestructive testing and has been in use for approximately
five decades. Among the advantages of this method
compared to other methods, such as ultrasound tests, is
the formation of an internal ‘photograph’ of the material,
which no other method is able to achieve. The radiographic
testing of weld bead or casting pieces using X-rays or
gamma source is one of the most important uses for this
inspection method. This work deals specifically with weld
bead radiographs that are used to check the existence of
weld defects from a variety of causes.
The conventional method of inspection requires that the
radiographic images are first-rate and are consequently
