Holmgren 2010
evaluated the effect of a multiple
intervention that largely consisted of individualised and h
ome-
based exercises. Finally,
Batchelor 2012
examined the effect of a
multifactorial intervention that also partly consisted of an
individ-
ualised home exercise programme but included a comprehensive
risk assessment and referral for a wide range of risk factors.
For
further details of the interventions provided, see
Characteristics of
included studies
.
In one study (
Green 2002
), the control group did not receive any
intervention. In two studies (
Batchelor 2012
;
Haran 2010
), the
control group did not receive an additional treatment (usual car
e
only). In all other studies, the control group received the same
amount of therapy but another type of treatment, although in
the
case of
Holmgren 2010
the treatment for the control group was
not dose-matched to that of the intervention group. For furthe
r
details of the content of the control group, see the
Characteristics
of included studies
table.
