In the present study also, although different sources
were used for isolation of PSB isolates, degraded wood as
source of novel phytase positive isolates also emerged as
potential source of these microbes. Degraded wood was
reported as a source of tannin degrading Serratia sp. byPepi et al. (2010). Ability of bacterial isolates from varying
habitats to produce extracellular phytase reveals their high
diversity and further strengthens chances of getting
potential isolates for a suitable phytase with desired properties.
The phytase from Serratia sp. PSB-15 with good
phytate solubilization index, extracellular phytase production,
thermostability and varying activity parameters was
found to be interesting and could be utilized for further
application purposes
