Two other deadly fires roaring through Northern California have destroyed more than 1,400 homes and threaten thousands more, state fire officials said.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said at least 888 homes have burned in the Valley Fire, 130 miles north of San Francisco, that already has been blamed in three deaths. The Butte Fire in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas has destroyed 535 residences, CalFire said. That fire has been blamed for two deaths.
Both fires have also burned hundreds of barns, garages and other structures.
