The large plasmodia of this species are located in the efferent gill arteries
similar to M. muelleri infections of the chub Squalius cephalus (L.) or M. bramae infection of the Abramis brama. The spores of M. bliccae, however, clearly differ from spores of the latter two species by having a large, readily visible intercapsular appendix and very apparent intracapsular filaments which exhibit only four to five turns within the capsules.
