Moreover, the formation of hydrogen is accompanied with VFAs or
solvent production during an anaerobic digestion process. Liquid
product analysis shows that the major soluble metabolic products
were acetate, propionate, butyrate, and ethanol (Table 3). The high
butyrate concentrations revealthatthe reaction was a butyrate fermentation
type. Similar result was found in our CSTR system and
the dominant microbial community was Clostridium species during
sucrose fermentation [11].
