If people want to change the social and political structure around them, they therefore need to change themselves, or at least what they do and how they do it. While cultural agency can explain these relationships, it cannot really show people what they must do or how they should do it in order to achieve the ends they desire. Thailand’ s recent political trouble shows this clearly. Both main parties (Democrats and Pheua Thai) claimed to want to eradicate corruption. Both parties claimed represent the needs of the poor. Both parties said they supported the King. Both parties claimed the rule of law. If they were so similar, why did they come to such violent confrontations? Cultural agency theory can reveal that people might not really want to stop corruption because many of them benefit from it. Many people did not really care about the special needs of the poor. Some people might support the monarchy in the words only. There are Thais who do not really follow the law or even want to because they have the power to rise above it and do what they want. Therefore , even though political said these things, they did not actually do it, because to do so would make too many people angry.
