The household questionnaire survey was constructed based
on the guidelines for Conducting Community Surveys on
Injuries and Violence20 and included questions regarding the
victim’s educational status, occupation, religion, duration of residence
in Dar es Salaam, family structure and home ownership.
Participants were also asked about drinking and hard drug
(cocaine and heroin) use and feeling about the safety of the
neighbourhood during day and night, as well as reports of violence
in the neighbourhood. The questions included information
regarding religious service attendance as an indicator of
faith activities and sociocultural activities.
