VII. CONCLUSION
This research paper investigated and researched the current
situation of cyber safety among school children in South
Africa as a developing country. The research identified some
key issues that are currently lacking in relation to cyber safety
awareness and education in South Arica. These key issues
include access to ICTs; language barriers; and an overall lack
of cyber safety educational material. A meta-analysis online
search was completed to obtain a list of different cyber risks
and countermeasures relating to school children and online
activities. This research proposed the development of an
offline game that could be used to design and distribute offline
cyber safety games to school children. The offline gaming
solution was proposed since it deals with a number of
educational and systemic barriers of learning in South Africa.
The framework incorporated building blocks that included
role players, different school levels, design factors, criteria
and supporting material.
It should be noted that initiatives, for example, cyber
safety awareness games proposed in this research should only
be a short-term initiatives. In the long term, it is essential that
cyber safety is incorporated in the school curriculum. Further
research that is derived from this research paper will tempt to
assist the South African government with different methods of
incorporating cyber safety in the school curriculum.
