Invigorated by learning
All the clinical psychologists’ journal reflections showed their strong engagement in
the theoretical aspects of the training days and how they valued this opportunity to
be able to explore, develop or reaffirm their understanding of psychotherapeutic
processes, as Carol expressed, ‘I’m excited and curious to develop my understanding’.
Interestingly, in contrast to the frequent energy drain of psychotherapy work
noted earlier, many of the clinical psychologists experienced an energy boost from
their learning on the training days, as can be seen in Gail’s comment, ‘Looking
forward to the learning aspect always feel invigorated and keen to go back to
engage with clients after this’.
Throughout the four training days, Gail’s journal reflections showed some
intensity in her need for learning and guidance in relation to her psychotherapy
work, as one entry showed, ‘Although looking forward to going through this material
which I feel is vital in my work, my head is ‘buzzing’ from a lot of questions I have
about myself and my life/career’.
