2. Along with the traditional ways of rewarding students for their good work and/or behavior, there are other ways food can be used as an incentive. For example, as part of a descriptive writing lesson, assign students to describe the perfect ice cream sundae; then let them create their own, based on their essay. Or assign students to sort a small bag of M&M’s by color to help them understand the concept of ratio. Be innovative, and look for opportunities to combine food with academics. The multisensory approach toward learning will make concepts easier, not to mention tons more fun.
