This study analyzed WTP for membership fees in non-profit sports clubs in Germany.
The current membership fees and the stated WTP indicated that members of a sports
club are highly heterogeneous. In this context, sport-specific differences must be taken
into account. From the average consumer surplus, there might be a tendency that
members of a sports club are willing to pay a higher membership fee. Therefore, a
sports club might consider an increase in its membership fees in the case of financial
problems. According to the results of the regression analysis, the current membership
fee, income, educational level, years of participation, and level of performance are significant
determinants of WTP, with years of participation having a negative impact.
