[4]. Thefine tuning of existing air pollution control devices offers the side
benefit of enhanced Hg removal using existing equipment.
However, boundaries between those concepts are not precise. If
specific technologies and fine-tuned co-removal measures are used
simultaneously, significant synergy effects in terms of cost- and
removal-efficiency may result. Thus, the most suitable concept of
Hg removal is to be evaluated for each plant individually, since it
depends on various factors, such as fuel type, configuration of
the flue gas treatment chain, emission limiting values and the concept
of the utilization of power plant by-products [5]. In this context,
all material flows emitted by power plants need to be taken
into account. In any case, increasing co-removal efficiency of Hg
by existing air pollution control devices reduces operating costs
of Hg specific control technologies.
