Development in measures taken by many communities in Bangkok is now at
the starting phase where the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority
campaigning for garbage separation at the household level. These
include reduction of amount of disposed solid waste, reuse some part
of the waste which could be bought back into use, recycle some part of
solid waste and investigate whether it is financially and economically
feasible for private investment.
Location of the sanitary landfill becomes point of concern while there
was an increasing demand for locations and spaces for solid waste dump
sites, the community was still endowed with the notion of "NIMBY" or
not in my backyard. The Bangkok Metropolitan Authority as well as
other provincial offices had to invest in sanitary landfill for their
own juristic areas. The attempt, in several places was developed
towards the use of the incinerator without much success, and that, the
cost of incineration project was very high. The community member is
now paying the fee just enough to cover the transport cost of solid
waste from the disposing point to the designated dump site, but not
enough for proper treatment.
