I had a similar experience. I actually receive about 50 solicitations (literally) from Chase telling me I have pre-approved credit. When I applied online to get the $40 off, I did not get instantly approved as promised. Amazon.com refused to take any responsibility. So, I cancelled my order for about $500 worth of toner and have not purchased anything from Amazon.com since nor do I expect to ever do so. I am only on the site because I have an Amazon store card and want to make a payment. Ultimately, Chase would not give me the card. It's the only time I've ever been refused a card. They said I have too many applications open with them, apparently because I applied for a Chase business card a couple of weeks earlier. The idiots gave me the business card, but not the personal card. None of which matters because I have 4 others cards with little or no balance. Bottom line, Amazon.com lost a regular $3K+ a year customer for nothing. I don't think they care. They are big enough now that they don't need to.
