One of the characteristics that defines a successful entrepreneur is their ability to bounce back from adversity – setbacks that would force most people to throw in the towel are turned into opportunity.
Susie Nelson’s vintage boutique Modes and More was flooded with sewage in August last year after a bout of heavy rain.
Imagine it: you get a call one morning and find out that stock worth tens of thousands of pounds is floating in human waste.
Ms Nelson’s shop was in the basement of Grays Antique Market near Bond Street, in central London. She and eight other dealers found themselves without a livelihood overnight.
“We were rather too vintage in how we kept our customer contact lists, so all of those were destroyed in the sogginess, too,” she says.
