Matic exploits poor defending
One of the few consolations Conte had at that point was Liverpool's tendency to suffer drops in intensity in the second half. At Arsenal on the opening weekend, they had been 4-1 up on 63 minutes yet subsequently conceded twice; at Tottenham, they were on top for an hour and should have made it 2-0, but suffered a slump that cost two points. Similar examples took place last season against Newcastle, Southampton and Sunderland.
Klopp moved his side deeper and relied more on counters; a reasonable strategy when you have Sturridge and Mane up front. But some legs appeared to tire, perhaps as a result of the dominant opening: Liverpool made 20 tackles in each half, but completed 12 in the first and seven in the second.
