To reconcile the seeming contradictions between this statement and his commitment to the individual one must recognise that foundational to Che's humanism—what makes it a socialist or Marxist humanism versus a bourgeois humanism—is the distinction between individuality and individualism. For Che, capitalist societies promote the false humanism of individualism where one's advancement. Posed as the result of only individual effort, is tied to the fall of someone else.
