While all chapters in this International Handbook push the boundaries
about what should be included in consideration of ‘the social’ in terms
of SIA, the topic is explicitly addressed in Chapter 6. Chapter 7 considers
what the impacts of a broad understanding of SIA are for the field of
health impact assessment. Chapter 5 considers how all social impacts are inherently interconnected with biophysical environmental impacts.
Chapter 12 promotes an awareness of the need to consider impacts on
future generations. Although the use of local knowledge has long been part
of SIA, Chapter 3 gives an extra impetus to explaining why the use of local
knowledge is important.
