Belief—If people feel they are making meaningful
contributions to their jobs, their organizations,
and society as a whole, they tend to be more
engaged. The connection between what people
do every day and the goals and mission of the
organization is crucial to engagement. Walk
into any children’s hospital, and you will find
caregivers who passionately believe in their roles
and the mission of the hospital. You also will
find high disdain for anything that gets in the
way of providing quality care. Likewise good
trainers believe in what they do and like having
opportunities to see others grow and develop.
A CFO might derive satisfaction from safeguarding
the organization’s financial integrity or from
helping the organization grow by maximizing its
investments.
