This artwork stood out to me immediately due to the sexually explicit content. It is very sexualized, but in a mysterious way, in my opinion. This stood out to me from the rest of Salvador Dali’s work because it mixes a sexual topic with, in my opinion, mystery and mythology. I found it very intriguing that the female is reaching up to pitch her nipple in an exotic way, but the hand isn’t her hand instead it is a skeletal hand, the body is floating in the clouds, perhaps from the pleasure, and in the far off corner is a centaur, half man, half beast, perhaps the object of her arousal. The female’s left arm is supported by a crutch and the right hand is a skeleton, I take this as meaning, carnal pleasure and lust can result in injury or death, on one hand is injury and the other hand is death. The object of her pleasure is a centaur, which is a made up character, therefore the object of her lust is made up. There is no love…it is imagined. All in all, I feel Dali’s works are very abstract and is up to many interpretations.
