KMR showed superior behavior as adhesion promoter in NR
mixes compared to manobond, a widely used adhesion promoter
in the rubber industry. KMR improves the mechanical properties
of the rubber mix, it also enhances the CRI. Its role in the
promotion of adhesion between the rubber mixes and the
brass-plated steel cords can be attributed mainly to the presence
of the Iron chelating compound that facilitates cross linking
between the Sulfur in the rubber mix and the brass surface.
Mixes prepared with KMR also show improved resistance to
aerobic aging and ionizing radiation.
