Get proper gaming equipment. Having a 10 year old mouse won't do. Buy yourself a proper mouse for gaming. An employee at the nearest tech store should be able to guide you, although try shopping around on the internet to get the best price possible. Headphones are good too, but not as crucial as the mouse. Also, try to get yourself a mouse pad. One of the best headphones is the Bose QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones - They are $400 though, so settle for something a little more in your price range; from experience both the Gamecon 780's and my current pair of Razer Megalodon's are a safe bet (and come in 7.1 surround sound)!
