Production rate is almost always measured as fiber flow for a given time. Fiber flow is
a combination of flow and consistency readings. Some operations have an
instantaneous pulp tons per day or per hour reading which is the rate across that part of
the mill.
The production rate is usually established across a part of the mill between pulp surge
tanks, such as the digester’s blow tanks and the brown high density storage before the
bleach plant, and between these storages and the bleached storages after the bleach
plant. Sometimes other storage tanks exist in some mills so that a stable rate can be
run on a group of stages for several hours.
