The primary objective of this study is to solve these problems,
by developing a new method to estimate building damage
in tsunami affected areas using pre- and post-tsunami
high-resolution SAR (TerraSAR-X) data. The structure of
this study is shown in Fig. 1. This method includes three
parts; 1) To detect flooded areas by the tsunami, 2) To detect
built-up areas, and 3) To estimate damage ratio of washed
away buildings based on a tile scale. To estimate building
damage, damage function is developed based on a linear regression
analysis. This is conducted by identifying the relationship
between damage ratio calculated using the actual
building damage data and the variables of features calculated
using pre- and post-event TerraSAR-X data.
