However, spending leisure time
outdoors is much more difficult for citizens who reside in
the city center. Besides, traffic jams and crowding, lack of
public spaces for leisure activities make shopping malls a
better alternative for spending their leisure time.
We examined the leisure and recreational preferences
of Ankara’s middleclass citizens in this paper. We
focused on why the preferences have changed and the
factors affecting the choice. We hypothesize that people
prefer going to a shopping mall instead of to a park in
their leisure time. We tried to find out which of these
spaces is more widely used and the common causes
behind these choices. Leisure and recreational place
preferences and the factors affecting these preferences,
are investigated and analyzed through questionnaires.
