End of Life
End-of-life and ethical issues need to be addressed because Pulmonary hypertension is a disease of progressive deterioration interspersed with episodes of acute decompensation. Death is difficult to predict; it may be sudden or slow. Communication with Pulmonary hypertension patients is essential to allow for advanced planning and discussion of their fears, concerns, and wishes. Prognosis should be discussed at the time of initial diagnosis, along with resuscitation status. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation tends to have poor outcomes in the Pulmonary hypertension patient.
