65% of Bon Appetit sales are microwaveable breaded products, which until recently were packed in a cook-in bag made with susceptor film which produces a crispy baked product (Figure 1). Although the solution represented an improvement on a previously adopted packaging format, customer feedback indicated that the greyish
colour of the bag was negatively affecting users’ perception of food quality – it was perceived the product was mouldy. For this reason, the KPT project was refocused on the development of a total packaging concept by moving from a bag to an innovative, ergonomic cardboard alternative especially made to fit the spirals of industry standard Crane A la Carte vending machine (Figure 2).
