Conclusions
Protein calorie malnutrition is extremely common in liver disease, irrespective of the aetiology. Meeting nutritional requirements for both macronutrients and micronutrients is essential. Restriction of speci c nutrients to treat symptoms must be carefully considered to prevent deterioration of nutritional status. NAFLD should be treated with weight loss advice and promotion of tight glycaemic con- trol in patients with diabetes. Herbal prepa- rations are not recommended.
