After dinner, Moon brothers sat themselves on the imported sofa in the living room as they watched a rerun show while enjoying the fresh fruits dessert served by Hyosung. Jongup, as always, would be seated between his Himchan Hyung and Youngjae Hyung. At the meantime, Himchan and Youngjae would glance at each other while making…weird faces behind Jongup. Well, you would think that he was oblivious about his hyungs’ weird behaviors, but no. They were so close to each other, to the extent that he would know everything that was related to the three of them. Without averting his cute small eyes from the plasma TV, he suddenly spoke out, shocking his hyungs.
“Hyungs, is there something you want me to know?” While chewing his favorite fruit, he shot a quick glance to his hyungs then stuck his eyes back to the show on TV.
Youngjae made a you-start-first-hyung-look to Himchan and the latter just nodded a bit, taking the lead to speak first. He rubbed his nose, trying to find the perfect words to start the conversation.
“Actually, yes. Gupbaby, we have discussed and decided to hire a bodyguard…” Before he could finish his words, Jongup interrupted.
“Ohhh, bodyguard? It’s a good idea, Chan Hyung. Hyosung Noona is always left alone in this house. She should have someone to accompany her while we are not around.” Okay, perhaps you can say Jongup could be oblivious sometimes. He did not have any idea that his hyungs were referring about him…not Hyosung or anyone else.
“Nonono, baby. It’s not like that.” And that was when Youngjae decided to open his mouth.
“We have hired a bodyguard…neither for the house nor for Hyosung noona, but for you. Only you.” Youngjae emphasized the last two words with his index finger pointed directly at Jongup. Jongup froze at his seat. What now? Is there any special day incoming? What a joke, Jae Hyung.
“You’re kidding, right?”
“Ani, baby. We really have recruited a bodyguard for you. Indeed, he will start carrying his duty tomorrow. He’ll be your driver too.” Youngjae said matter-of-factly.
“Just so you know, my dear. University life is different from high school. If you misled your way, you would end up screwing your life up. I don’t want anything to happen to you.” Himchan spoke, trying to reason out why exactly they did this.
“Chan Hyung is right, baby. There are different kinds of people with different kinds of attitudes. First week as a freshy is not something to enjoy about. Seniors won’t let their butts stay helpless in their seats. They would start hunting for new victims to be bullied off.” Youngjae sounded like a dad – very serious to the point that it never crosses your mind he would be one. That was how protective he could be for his only beloved baby dongsaeng.
“B-but, hyung… I can take care of myself. I’m already 19!” Jongup tried to argue. It was a fact he was now 19 years old. And he could take care of himself…right?
“True. But we don’t believe in you.” Himchan said nonchalantly. He took a sip from his hot green tea and waited for Jongup’s response. While on the other side, Jongup seemed to want to say something as he opened his mouth but second later he closed it back. Suddenly, he clapped his hands together and got up from the sofa. Himchan’s and Youngjae’s brows creased in confusion and gave what-the-hell-is-happening-look to each other. Jongup faced them with his both hands at his waist. A sweet smile was plastered on his face.
“Oh, stop the acts, hyungs. I know you’re joking. Never mind, I’ll wait for the special day to come okay! I’m going to bed now, goodnight.” He then gave a quick peck on both Himchan’s and Youngjae’s cheeks before he walked off to his room, leaving his two hyungs dumbfounded in the living room.
After stepping out of the car, the boy immediately went to find his best friend who was probably waiting for his late arrival. As his steps took him to the garden, his mind was overworking over what happened last night. Even though he thought that his hyungs were joking last nig...
