Greenhow (2011) summarizes that using social media tools in learning promotes a more studentcentered course. These tools allow students to interact and collaborate with each other and instructors and “promotes personal choice, customization and student familiarity” (Hoffman, 2009, para. 23). Students are better able to create their own understanding of content when creating with these tools. Furthermore, Light (2011) identified elements that shape how Web 2.0 tools can be used meaningfully. Without structure, social media can negatively impact student learning.
