3.5 Safety Officer’s Responsibilities
3.5.1 To provide advice and guidance in matters relating to safety and health
3.5.2 To investigate accidents and submit reports
3.5.3 To conduct safety meetings and site inspections
3.5.4 To ensure compliance with provisions of the factories Act and the Building Operations and works of Engineering Constructions Regulations
3.5.5 To liaise and maintain contacts with Government Bodies in matters pertaining to health and safety of employees
3.5.6 To run safety training sessions
3.5.7 To co-ordinate with Line Managers and Supervisors in the enforcement of safety discipline and regulations
3.5.8 To organize safety promotional activities to sustain interest in safety
3.5.9 To keep the Management posted of the safety performance on site
3.5.10 To perform other related duties as gazette in the Factories
(Registration and Duties of Safety Officers) Regulations, 1975
4.0 SAFETY INSPECTION :
4Any items requiring action shall be corrected immediately or relayed to section heads concerned for remedial action.
The above inspection will cover the following equipment to ensure that they are properly maintained and in good working condition :
1) Fire Extinguishers - Fire Section
2) Air Condition - Electrical Section
3) Emergency Lighting - Electrical Section
4) Gas Detectors - Electrical Section
5) Fire Alarm System - Electrical Section
6) Heat Detectors - Electrical Section
7) Elect. Equipment - Electrical Section
8) Mech. Equipment - Mechanical Section
4.3 Periodical Inspection and Registration of Working Equipment
This inspection is conducted by Safety Department on a monthly basis to ensure these equipments are safe and sound prior to use. Upon completion of checking and testing, the said equipment/hoses are attached by sticker tag and recorded.
This visual inspection will be carried out jointly by Safety Department and OWNER before the initial commencement of the work at site. If necessary, a Third Party Agency will be engaged to certify the testing and checking.
5.0 SAFETY MEETING :
5.1 Safety Committee Meeting
The basic function of Safety Meeting is to create and maintain interest in safety and health. The Safety Committee Meeting is held on a monthly basis.
5.2 Company/OWNER Weekly Safety Meeting
The Company/Owner Weekly Safety Meeting will be held to discuss report of a safety inspection and other safety related subjects.
5.3 Accidental Meeting & Investigation
The meeting of accidental matter and investigation shall be immediately conducted and summarize all results with report to Project Manager/Owner. (See Item 6.18.2
6.0 SAFETY PROGRAM :
This program shall serve as a Field Safety Guide.
It provides the safety measures to be diligently observed for the safe execution of the various construction activities.
