Ethanolic extracts prepared from the stems of T. crispa
are commonly used to treat fever, diabetes and jaundice in
traditional medicine in Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines. The
results of this study demonstrate the hepatotoxicity of TAA is
potentiated by the plant extract when administered daily for
8 weeks. This study also emphasizes the usefulness of a dual
strategy involving in vitroand in vivoexperiments on medicinal
plants commonly used in traditional medicine, whose safety has
not been yet been established.
