Thestructureoftheweatheringprofileresultsfromamultiphaseprocess:anancientweatheringprofilewaspartlyeroded,downtoitsfissuredlayer.Itwaslaterre-weatheredmoreorless paralleltothecurrenttopographicsurface.Thispeculiarstructureislinkedtothegeodynamic historyoftheIndianPeninsulathatunderwentalternateweatheringanderosion-dominated phases.Theprofileisthuscomposed,fromtoptobottom,uptoatotaldepthof35m,ofsandy regolithsaprolite(1–3m),10–15moflaminatedsaprolitecontainingunusualpreservedfissuresanda15–20mthickfissuredlayer.
