For instance, in some Tantric traditions, the consumption of meat and alcohol, and indulgence in erotic activity, were accepted as a valid sādhana (spiritual practice).
Thus Tantra did not necessarily always enforce withdrawal from society, but at times embracing the everyday world of earthly pleasures.
It was taught that by affirming, rather than avoiding, impurities, one could thereby more easily transcend the desire of those things. Avoiding them would simply increase desire for them.
