Plots 7 and 8 were created in March of 2001 when it became clear that FORRU trees would
grow taller than the perches on plots 4 –6. They were located in naturally regenerating areas 100-200
m from plots 4 and 5 respectively. All BMSM plots were protected by firebreaks and surrounded by
either FORRU plantations or fields dominated by Imperata cylindrica, Thysanolaena latifolia and
Pteridium aquilinum.
