Loy Krathong in Bangkok
Millions of people, both Thais and foreign tourists, took part in last night's Loy Krathong festivities around the country.
This year, most of the floating baskets, or "krathong" as they are known here, were made of natural, biodegradable materials and many families floated only one krathong to put less of a burden on the environment.
The centre of attention in the late afternoon was the Chao Phraya River outside of Siriraj Hospital where the krathongs (actually "Phra Pratheep" in the royal language) of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen were floated by palace officials. (Photo by Seksan Rojjanametakul)
