Training of the study personnel at the country level
Country coordinators will conduct the training that they consider the most appropriate to implement the survey. The following steps are considered essential.
1. Site visits to the health facilities
2. Training of hospital staff for data collection
3. Preparation of the data collection and management system
5.1 Site visits to the health facilities
Each country coordinator or his/her collaborators should visit all the health facilities as per schedule. During the site visits, the following activities should be performed:
a) Meet the Medical Director and/or Superintendent of each health facility to explain the project and provide the documentation proving that you are the person in charge for the Global Survey at the country level.
b) An institutional informed consent should be read and signed by both the Medical Director and Country Coordinator and sent to WHO, Geneva.
c) The Institutional Form should be filled in by the Country Coordinator or collaborators in agreement with hospital staff and sent to WHO, Geneva for data entry.
d) A Hospital Coordinator and a data clerk should be selected at each health facility during the site visit. The Hospital Coordinator will be responsible for supervision of data collection done by the data clerk (Nurse/Midwife who deals with Hospital records). At the end of each week the completed forms should be sent to the Country Coordinator (or the agreed alternative) to be entered. Data clerks at the hospitals will be responsible for data collection from medical records.
e) The data clerk at each health facility should keep a log book. The details of the log book with an example are provided at the end of the manual.
f) A training schedule for data collection should be arranged in each province and the capital with all hospital coordinators and data clerks.
