More mangroves to be planted
Manila — Officials in the Philippines said on November 24 that more mangrove areas would be planted to prevent a repeat of the deadly storm surges that claimed numerous lives during Super Typhoon Haiyan.
President Benigno Aquino’s spokesman Herminio Coloma said the move was among the measures that will be part of a comprehensive programme of environmental protection.
“The programme will include no-build zones in coastal areas, even if it means moving people who already live in such places,” Herminio said. — AFP
