Vaginal breech delivery is undertaken where the balance of risk is
considered to favor it over cesarean delivery, particularly in settings
where access to cesarean delivery is limited or the facilities are such
that surgical and anesthesia risks are high. All skilled attendants
need to regularly practice the diagnosis of breech presentation in
labor and maneuvers for vaginal breech delivery using models, as
any individual will not undertake sufficient breech deliveries to maintain
competency. The typical techniques for vaginal breech delivery
are illustrated in the WHO manual [11] (P-37 onward).
