Tetrapodal pentadentate ligands are chelators that form square pyramidal coordination caps when bound to a single metal ion.1 Complexes incorporating these ligands have been studied in a wide variety of applications, for example as hydrogen evolution catalysts,2 water oxidation catalysts,3 enzyme mimics,4,5 redox mediators in dye-sensitized solar cells,6 and metal cluster systems exhibiting slow magnetic relaxation.
