To obtain the product, the GBR was dried at the temperatures of
130 and 150 C for both drying media. The static bed height was
fixed at 10 cm and the superficial fluid velocity was in the range
of 3.5–5.7 m/s. The samples were taken out from the dryer at predetermined
times to measure grain temperature and moisture content.
Grain temperature was measured by putting the sample into
a well insulated container and inserting a thermometer into that
container. After the GBR was dried to approximately 22% d.b., the
sample was taken out from the dryer and tempered in a closed
jar for 30 min in order to reduce stresses. In the last drying stage,
GBR was ventilated using ambient air until the moisture content
of the sample reached 16% d.b. The ventilation time was about
30 min. The samples were kept in cold storage at 4–6 C before
quality test. The quality of dried GBR was compared with the reference
GBR quality.
