Hani Hayek is the recruitment officer at Retail Us, a luxury retail company in Beirut, lebanon. Most employees have been with the company since its inception in 1982. in 2010, the human resources manager, Mr.Ghazi Haddad, retired; thus, a replacement needed to be found.
Hani called for a staff meeting. acknowledged the contribution of all employees, and explained the situation at hand. he continued to say that a recruitment advertisement would be run and encouraged anyone who felt qualified to apple. As Hani spoke, Bushra, the assistant HR manager had a big smile on her face. She felt confident that she was next in line. After all, isn't that how these things were supposed to work?
Hani read through the main job requirements for the Human Resources Manager position.These were to:
- Enhance morale and productivity,limit job turnover, increase performance,and improve business results;
-Diagnose organizational effectiveness and implement solutions;
-Create a strategic recruitment and selection plan;
-Evaluate company culture and provide recommendation on activities, events, and changes to accomplish company goals and objectives.
Candidates had to be enthusiastic, diplomatic, attentive to detail,a team player and had to have a university degree and at least 3 years experience.
The pool of candidates included external candidates and people from within the company but Bushra felt confident that she would get the position. After the process was completed, the new HR manager was going to be announced in a separate meeting.
Once again, Hani called a staff meeting. This time, Mr. Haddad was sitting to one side of Hani and to the other side was a new face. Bushra's heart skipper a beat and a hundred thoughts ran through her head.
At this point, all eyes were focused on Bushra. They all knew how much she wanted this position after ten years at the company.
With the adjournment of the meeting, staff members welcomed Aziz Kamal, the newly appointed HR manager. Hani called Bushra over, introduced her to Aziz Kamal, and asked her to wait in his office; he needed to speak with her.
